The book starts off in California with Richard Levine giving a lecture at a university of some sort. I would imagine it to be similar to Silicon Valley, a huge tech area. Throughout the book, the story progresses to a similar setting as Jurassic Park. On the islands off the coast of Costa Rica. The only difference is that Jurassic Park took place on Isla Nublar and The Lost World takes place on Isla Sorna. Isla Sorna is where all the "behind the curtain" operations took place while the park was running. It is abandoned now and it is where ancient flora and fauna roam. Dinosaurs big and small inhabit this island and the only people on it are the main characters Ian Malcom and Richard Levine. It heavily relates to the title of the book because this island has gone unexplored for so long, it truly is a lost world.
