I think that the theme of this book mainly centers around control. The thought that humans could resurrect such a powerful being and try to rule it. The being is going to fight back and that is exactly what happened. Humanity thought that they were the most superior and tried to enforce that thought on the dinosaurs. I liked the theme of the book. It made the book very interesting. Personally, I am not okay with bringing back dinosaurs. I would've ran away right when they told me. I would not want to go through what the characters in the book went through. This is the final blog post for this book. I had lots of fun and I'll be back next year!

Someone who isn't the main character but I feel that plays a vital role in the story is Nedry. He is responsible for causing one of the main incidents in the book. As I wrote in one of my previous blogs, he caused a park wide blackout. This allowed some dinosaurs to escape, ultimately resulting in his death. The blackout caused a bunch of confusion between the characters, forcing them to scramble around the park looking for each other. If Nedry wasn't on the island, the book might have been a lot more peaceful. He was greedy and inconsiderate of others, I don't know why they hired him to work on the island because he probably had a background reflecting this. Luckily, everyone didn't die because of what he did. Most of the important characters came out with their lives.
Michael Chrichton is an American best - selling author. He is best known for his work in the science fiction, medical fiction and thriller genres. He always does a great job integrating real science in his stories. It makes reading his books very enjoyable for me. Jurassic Park isn't a book that uses "future" science as an excuse to achieve an impossible goal. All of the science and technology in Jurassic Park is explained and makes sense to me. I haven't read any of his other books, but I would like to in future independent reading projects.
So... Currently everyone is stuck in the park without power. They're all separated and lost, the electric fences are down, and the dinosaurs are on the loose. It's all Nedry's fault. For reasons unknown, he installed a program that allowed him to access any part of the park. He went into a top level security room to get some embryos while everyone was out on a test tour. He shut off the power to cover his tracks. I believe he was killed by a Dilophosaur. It is confirmed that he was attacked during his escape but his death isn't. Even if he is still alive, he has no way to get off the island. Grant and the two children were startled by an adult T-rex, sustaining serious injury. The characters are worried if the others are still alive. Everyone's just in a scramble to contact each other. The moral of the story is, don't be Nedry.
Jurassic Park is 442 pages long. I have made it to page 227. The book is very interesting so far. There hasn't been a lot of action until recently. The book contains a lot of moments that make you sit and say to yourself "Yeah... that would work." Personally I love the book. It's futuristic and dramatic. At this point in the book there is tons of suspense because the power went out in the park and everyone is all in the park alone. Someone just died because a dilophosaur spit acid in his face. There's just enough elements in the book for me to paint a picture in my head. It's something that a book usually doesn't do for me. And the top reason why I love this book is that it has DINOSAURS. I have loved dinosaurs since I was two years old. I give this book a 10/10 so far. I'll be back next week. See ya!
The setting of Jurassic park starts in Costa Rica, where Grant and Ellie are excavating a velociraptor skeleton. They soon get an invitation to travel to an unknown park called Isla Nublar. At the point of the book where I'm at, Grant and Ellie have just arrived and spotted some sauropods. Isla Nublar is to be the biggest isolated wildlife preserve on the planet. It's covered in prehistoric vegetation and trees as big as the dinosaurs. It is also supposed to be a public attraction, much like a typical zoo. Only at this zoo, the animals were all previously extinct. Two major characters from Jurassic Park are Alan Grant, everyone just calls him Grant, and Ellie Sattler. Both of them study extinct organisms. Grant is a paleontologist and Ellie is a paleobotonist. Both of them seem like really easygoing people. People who love what they do and let life approach them. I do think that while they are very relaxed, both of them take their jobs very seriously. Apart from how he is depicted in the movie, just from reading this first portion of the book, I can't help but imagine Grant to look like a man in his mid-50's, white hair, and a thick white beard. A little like Santa Claus but less fat and a smaller beard. I think Ellie comes off very adventurous and optimistic. I think the characters work well together. I know that Grant is supposed to be a middle aged, brown-haired man. But with a name like Grant, I want him to fit the previous description. Goodbye!!! |
