Project Overview
The BioLit Class hosts an annual blood drive run by the students. We worked with Blood Source to make it happen. The class took a field trip to their facility. Students organize the entire event. Students managed things such as parent permission slips, collecting donors, and advertisement around the school. The requirements for donating are that you have to be healthy, above 16 years of age and 110 pounds. I was responsible for social media advertisement. I did this through New Tech Communications and Instagram. While we were setting up the blood drive, we were also reading the graphic novel of Dracula by Bram Stoker. I really liked the book, especially because it contained the original text.
Learning Outcome
The Biolit Blood Drive project helped me grow in the field of collaboration. I found that communicating with people only through email isn't always easy. It's very different and much more helpful to communicate in person. Since I was tasked with social media advertisement, I found myself in a tough spot because I don't use any form of social media. I had to communicate with another student that runs the NT Communications and ask for him to include the blood drive in his New Tech News Blasts. It felt good to be a part of a great event like this.
