Project Overview
For the Revolutions Debate Project I was asked to prepare to debate with a team in the format of an Intelligence Squared Debate. This means that each speaker has four minutes to speak, two minutes to prepare for rebuttal, and one minute to rebut. My team was designated to argue for an affirmative standpoint on all of the topics. We were allowed to negotiate with our opposing team to choose between four options as the debate topic. The debate topics were as follows:
1. This house believes revolutions cause more harm than good.
2. This house believes that the costs of revolution can be justified.
3. This house believes the United States needs a revolution.
4. This house believes revolution is not the only solution.
We decided to debate on the second debate topic of This house believes that the costs of revolution can be justified. This was helpful because I could pull evidence from a revolutions essay on the same topic. To start the project, I decided to be the fourth speaker and my main point would be "The outcome of a revolution can justify the costs of revolution". The speech was required to have evidence from any trustworthy source that helps my argument. I would then write many drafts of my speech, constantly asking for and receiving feedback from Mr, Jereb and Ms. Tateishi. After I finished writing my speech, my team would practice presenting to the teachers and continue to receive feedback on our project. At the end of the project, I debated with my team
