First of all, the book is 416 pages long and I have read 240 pages into the book. I think I am starting to like this book better than Jurassic Park. The reason being that there is much more dinosaur interaction in this book. And the dinosaurs are the only reason that I'm reading this book. As of now, everybody is on an island named Isla Sorna because Ian Malcom and Richard Levine are studying dinosaurs. They think by that studying the way that they lived, they can decipher how they died. The only problem that I have with the portion of the book that I've read is that there seems to be a lot of characters that don't play any serious role in the story at all. I'm sure they will be important later though.

The book starts off in California with Richard Levine giving a lecture at a university of some sort. I would imagine it to be similar to Silicon Valley, a huge tech area. Throughout the book, the story progresses to a similar setting as Jurassic Park. On the islands off the coast of Costa Rica. The only difference is that Jurassic Park took place on Isla Nublar and The Lost World takes place on Isla Sorna. Isla Sorna is where all the "behind the curtain" operations took place while the park was running. It is abandoned now and it is where ancient flora and fauna roam. Dinosaurs big and small inhabit this island and the only people on it are the main characters Ian Malcom and Richard Levine. It heavily relates to the title of the book because this island has gone unexplored for so long, it truly is a lost world.
