The setting of Jurassic park starts in Costa Rica, where Grant and Ellie are excavating a velociraptor skeleton. They soon get an invitation to travel to an unknown park called Isla Nublar. At the point of the book where I'm at, Grant and Ellie have just arrived and spotted some sauropods. Isla Nublar is to be the biggest isolated wildlife preserve on the planet. It's covered in prehistoric vegetation and trees as big as the dinosaurs. It is also supposed to be a public attraction, much like a typical zoo. Only at this zoo, the animals were all previously extinct.

Two major characters from Jurassic Park are Alan Grant, everyone just calls him Grant, and Ellie Sattler. Both of them study extinct organisms. Grant is a paleontologist and Ellie is a paleobotonist. Both of them seem like really easygoing people. People who love what they do and let life approach them. I do think that while they are very relaxed, both of them take their jobs very seriously. Apart from how he is depicted in the movie, just from reading this first portion of the book, I can't help but imagine Grant to look like a man in his mid-50's, white hair, and a thick white beard. A little like Santa Claus but less fat and a smaller beard. I think Ellie comes off very adventurous and optimistic. I think the characters work well together. I know that Grant is supposed to be a middle aged, brown-haired man. But with a name like Grant, I want him to fit the previous description. Goodbye!!! |
